A new wire rod rolling mill with four lines, steam engine 2200 hp with cable transmission is launched. Old rolling mill converted into a forge and the boiler room. The new rolling shop differs from the old in that the old one used a water wheel and produced predominantly section iron, while the new one employed a steam engine, and produced the wire i.e. wire rod.
New auxiliary shops are built: casting, mechanical repair, electric, central boiler plant, main step-down substation, water pumping, oxygen and compressor stations.

OJSC “Nizhneserginsky hardware-metallurgy plant” renamed to OJSC “NLMK Ural”.
Thus, its name and corporate identity were harmonized with its production profile, geography and the fact that it is part of NLMK Group, an international steelmaking company.
